The Gaps Between

“Where structure dissolves and form emerges”

Exploring the relationship between infrastructure and organic architecture, The Gaps Between takes inspiration from networks and road systems translated into delicate lace like structural forms.

Using digital and Irish machine embroidery on dissolvable fabric reveals intricate frameworks, and intentional negative space. The addition of cording and elastic threads create raised, organic shapes and lines which emerge through the dissolving process to create growth and movement.

The use of organza and tulle netting introduces a soft, translucent quality while textured fringing created through overlocked thread contrasts against the structured embroidery.

A focused palette of marine blue, silvery charcoal and red hues enhance the contrast between structure and softness.

Positioned within a fashion context, the embroidery transforms into sculptural surface,

blending textile, architectural structure and the body.
